Do you have a pet canine that bites? Then it is time you took remedial action to stop a puppy from biting. There is great risk in allowing it to continue, just because you feel it is only nipping. Playful nipping will eventually, turn into serious and dangerous biting.
No animal owner should have a dog that may endanger children, the guests or anyone that may come to their home. If your dog has a biting problem then there are ways to stop a dog from biting. Not remedying the problem of your dog biting will definitely end up with both, your pet, and you in serious trouble. If your puppy is apt to bite and manages to get out alone, it can bite a child or even an adult passing on the street, and if the bite causes serious damage your puppy could be put down as a dangerous animal, and you end up being held liable for the damage. In order to stop such things happening to your friends, you and your dog, the only thing to do is to learn how to stop puppies from biting.
Biting is a negative behavior pattern in dogs and is best corrected when the dog is a month or two old. All puppies love to chew, so the first thing to have is an adequate supply of chew toys around. This succeeds a long way into discouraging a puppy trying to mouth anything and everything it can place its mouth around, because mouthing is the inception of all biting problems. If your pup was long enough with its litter it would have been taught by its mother, and litter mates, how to restrain its biting urges and tendencies. If a puppy bites its mother, the mother will cry. The puppy is astonished and alarmed at the reaction, and when he bites her the second time his mother would howl louder and even growl at the puppy as she turns away from him, ignoring the biting puppy. This is how puppies get to know that they cannot use that force with their jaws and teeth, and if the puppy bites the mother the third time his mother will turn on him with anger. So the puppy begins to learn from its mother and siblings in the social pack that biting is not an acceptable behavior.
Since we have extracted the puppy from this inherited training atmosphere, we have do the same thing its mother does to stop the doggy biting. The technique us humans could utilize to complete this training would be to cry in a high-pitched voice every time the dog tries to snap or bite any part of our body or even clothing. A little bit of exaggeration would help to get the point across. If the incising continues, start disregarding the puppy after the 'yelp' and refuse to play with it. The puppy will soon understand that biting leads to all the amusement and affection being stopped, and will realize that forceful nipping is not permissible behavior pattern.
Another method to stop doggy from mouthing is to use a muzzle. It may sound a bit cruel or extreme, but it is not. A muzzle will not hurt the pup in any way. It just hinders it from opening its jaws wide enough to bite anything. The puppy will soon discover why the muzzle is on and will learn. Every pup owner must bear in mind, that, a dog that bites, is one of the most critical dog problems, which any mutt owner could be plagued with. Play biting can lead to real harmful biting and steps to stop dog from biting must be taken before the unthinkable happens.
